My Story

Growing up and traveling throughout Europe during my early childhood as well as taking the leap over the Atlantic to begin a new life in the land of opportunity, has truly shaped the person and designer I am today. I continuously experience the lifestyles of many cultures through my travels, soaking in the way of life, architecture and history of the places and people I visit. I can relate to all walks of life, a skill I transfer into the relationships I build with my clients. A great designer starts the design process by first understanding a client's vision and then using the tools developed along with meraki to bring the 3d puzzle to life.

Interior design has been a childhood passion of mine since I can remember building model home from Styrofoam packaging on Christmas. After heavily involving myself in the arts program throughout my school life, I continued my education at ASU in business and design. As an assistant designer at the age of 18, I also began my "real world knowledge", which eventually led me to an architectural firm in Brooklyn. There I honed my skills in the technical side of commercial building design;  working on several projects involving new developments, interiors, exteriors and historic preservation & restoration. After an amazing experience that no book could teach, I progressed to high-end residential design. I became the lead designer of a prestigious design firm in the North Shore of LI, building and designing luxury homes.  I have been involved in every step of building a home, from the beginning of construction, down to the final details of pillow trimmings. Naturally the next step was to take all of my knowledge and growth over the past 18 years in this industry and embark on my own, to create my own design legacy. I am thankful to share my meraki with my clients and create a space for them to love and call their own.

SAMHAL DESIGN GROUP 2009-2015

Having worked my way up through the years to lead designer in this firm, has provided me with the skills to not only design but also project manage construction of a large magnitude. I’ve worked closely with the architects and builders to create a solid team that can exceed the homeowners expectations. Among the three complete house projects listed below, there are many smaller projects that were designed simultaneously.

HARBOR HILL DRIVE || SINGLE FAMILY HOME || LLOYD HARBOR, NY || NEW CONSTRUCTION 4700 SQ FT || COMPLETED IN 2010

The goal in designing this home was driven by the whimsical nature of this family’s personality. The unique characteristics of each room were directed by our client’s vision.  The traditional architectural details are well balanced with the strong play of colors to create a cozy inviting home this family will grow into.

VAN WYCK LANE || SINGLE FAMILY HOME || LLOYD HARBOR, NY || RESIDENTIAL RENOVATION 6500 SQ FT || COMPLETED IN 2010

While keeping only bare bone essentials in this home and functionally working our way out, we were able to give this family of five, their dream home. A casual elegance is carried throughout the aesthetics of this home. A vintage speakeasy inspired full entertainment basement with brick walls and arched ceilings, outdoor professional kitchen, bar and pool-house, and petrified wood kitchen island are just some of the highlights that showcase the homeowners love for entertaining.

BOUTON ROAD || SINGLE FAMILY HOME || LLOYD HARBOR, NY || NEW CONSTRUCTION 6000 SQ FT || COMPLETED IN 2015

This home depicts the perfect marriage of casual coastal and elegance. To create the dream home the homeowner was envisioning, required working from the early stages of construction, hand in hand with the architect and builder. A color theme of blues and neutrals is carried throughout to mirror the natural surroundings.

STAGING TO SELL || HOMES IN THE LONG ISLAND AREA || 2011 - PRESENT

Staging a home for sale is a process valued by the current and future homeowners as well as the realtors. The striking differences we have been able to make to these homes speak for themselves, when the house goes on the market and the rate of sale accelerates tremendously.  With a proven track record that includes all the houses that have been staged, this is a must to be included in the process of home sale.
