Filarakia has been the ultimate bouzoukia hot spot for more years than I can remember! When the team brought me on to design the new location, I knew I had to bring a modern twist to this old time fave. My design concept was based on creating a visually exciting and vibrant space while allowing for an accoustically fantastic live-music experience. Keeping the exterior in a simple matte black facade created a mystery, louring potential clients’ interest.
Upon entering the front bar space, you are surrounded by beams of light. A hand-painted wall mural of “light beams” on the left is highlighted with modern spectrum sconces that wash a cool array of light on the walls. The effect is mirrored on the right behind the bar, with custom shelving and geometric globes hanging in variation.
As you progress towards the back, there is a transition space to which you can go downstairs to the private lounge or the bathrooms. The eye-catching blue agate wallpaper and statement lighting gives patrons another photo-opp. The main room towards the back of the club is distinguished by the light-catching black wallpaper that envelopes the space allowing the attention to the stage. The long room is highlighted with various custom sconces that run on the side walls. The center stage is a pearlescent finish with vintage mirror side panels to reflect the light and bring the eye front and center to the performance.
This project overcame some great challenges of time and budget. We completed the design within a month and completed construction within three months.
